| RNs | It is within the scope of practice of a registered nurse to manage the care of patients receiving IV conscious sedation during therapeutic, diagnostic, or surgical procedures when certain specific criteria are met. Refer to the Board of Nursing Position Statement directly for the full list of criteria and guidelines that must be met for a registered nurse to manage patients receiving conscious sedation medications. | Delaware General Assembly | Delaware’s Administrative Code: Health & Social Services | MDs, DOs, RNs, CRNAs | Title 16, DAC, 4405 (10): Free Standing Surgical Centers – Administration of Anesthesia – Page 7 - The anesthesia services must be under the direction of a Board Certified or Board eligible anesthesiologist if general anesthesia is to be used or anesthesia other than local procedures.
- In cases where other than local anesthesia is employed the anesthetic must be administered by only:
- A qualified anesthesiologist; or
- A physician qualified to administer anesthesia; or
- A certified nurse anesthetist (CRNA)
- In those cases where a non-physician administers the anesthesia, the anesthetist must be under the supervision of the operating physician.
